Squaw Valley USA, (Squaw Valley Press Release)—The slopes of Squaw Valley are ringing with glee as news trickles in that local skier, Julia Mancuso, will be bringing a Gold Medal home. This morning in Torino Julia conquered a strong pool of competitors and less than perfect weather conditions to be the first American woman to win an Olympic Alpine medal since the 1998 Games in Nagano. While Julia is makingnews around the world with her extraordinary win in the Giant Slalom, she is bringing smiles to the faces of her hometown fans in Squaw Valley.
Julia is a true Squaw Valley local, raised in the ski town rich with Olympic heritage. Julia went through the Squaw Valley race program, beginning with Mighty Mites when she was 3. The last time an American woman won a gold medal in GS was in 1984, the same year Julia was born. This medal was meant for Julia.
