Boulder, CO, Jan. 24, 2001–Every woman will have the opportunity to experience snow sports of all varieties in the annual “Take Your Daughter to Snow Week,” which runs from Jan. 29-Feb. 4, 2001 nationwide. Approximately 300 winter resorts, trail systems, snow sports retailers, and rental shops will offer incentives to entice women to play in the snow.
The Snow Sports Association for Women (SSAW) has supported and promoted the event for the last four years as a way to bring women to snow sports. Picabo Street will return for the third straight year as the national spokesperson for the event. Don’t think you have to be giddy and in pigtails to take advantage of “Daughter Week.” Any woman who introduces another woman to the slopes counts as a “daughter” during this weeklong campaign. Even fathers are welcome to bring their daughters out to spend quality time enjoying the outdoors.
Discounts on lift or trail tickets, freebies when you buy a ticket, and special discounts are just some of the ways the snow sports industry will encourage women to try snowshoeing, snowboarding, and alpine or nordic skiing. Participating retailers and resorts will provide their own programs during the week.
For example, Squaw Valley USA, CA will offer two for one group lessons to parents and daughters during the week, costing only $36 per pair. Vermont’s Killington Resort will offer a buy one get one free lift ticket deal for a portion of the week, as well as free snownboard clinics on Feb. 3 and 4.
Sponsor-donated prizes including skis, snowboards, a vacation package, snowshoes, and subscriptions to Sports Illustrated for Women will be given away in a drawing on May 1, 2001.
