Those who have been glued to the opening day countdown banner on Keystone’s website since the SKI Gear Guide hit newsstands are in for a pleasant surprise today: The countdown now reads less than 24 hours.
After a strong October storm cycle that blessed the Southern Rockies with up to five feet of snow, the resort will open on Wednesday, Nov. 7 for the 2018-’19 season, two days ahead of schedule. The same goes for Breckenridge, a fellow Epic Pass resort, as well as Boulder’s backyard resort, Eldora, the first Ikon Pass partner resort in Colorado to open for the season.
“It’s been a snowy start to the season and it is official; the skiing and snowboarding season is here,” said John Buhler, Breckenridge’s vice president and chief operating officer. “We are thrilled to kick off the winter season this week and anticipate opening up a variety of terrain quickly at the resorts.”

Those with flexible work schedules are uniquely positioned to sample the fresh goods before the rest of the world flocks to these resorts this weekend. If you can’t get away from your desk on Wednesday, remember that you have a few options this weekend, with Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, and Wolf Creek already open for the season. Wolf Creek, until now only open on the weekends, will start operating throughout the week beginning Friday, Nov. 9.
