ICYMI: They Might Try Skiing at Burning Man—and More Weird Ski News

A burner and mountain enthusiast that goes by the nickname of Major Trouble has launched a Kickstarter to bring a custom-built dry-slope ski run to the Playa.

Of course, why didn’t we think of this?! Desert people’s favorite temporary city might be headed for an alpine upgrade this year as one man is proposing building his own ski area at legendary Burning Man. You heard right. A burner and mountain enthusiast that goes by the nickname of Major Trouble has launched a Kickstarter to bring a custom-built dry-slope ski run to the Playa, and, uh, it doesn’t look all that bad. The proposed hill, to be known as Lake Lahontan Ski Resort, will feature a 62-foot-long ski slope, a drop-in platform, and even a removable kicker and rail. What could possibly go wrong?

Ski boot half marathon record broken…again

I’m unsure why this is still a thing, but every few years, some foot-sure fool decides it’s a good idea to run long distances in the most uncomfortable footwear on the planet. It turns out 2023 was another one of those years, as Englishman Tom Bracey ran the Birmingham Half Marathon in his Atomic ski boots in 2:21, shattering the previous record (and likely his metatarsals) while raising money for POW. Good on you, Tom, but I’ll stick to the sliding downhill part.

Kimbo Sessions goes off in Sweden

While ski season is winding down across North America, Scandinavia is heating up. The underground classic known as Kimbo Sessions took off in Klappen, Sweden, earlier this month, and we were gifted with not one but THREE edits from this innovative gathering of ski minds.
