Game On for FWT19 at Kicking Horse

After a rowdy competition in Japan, the Freeride World Tour (FWT) is set to head to its only North American stop this week. The venue, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, is a place of legend for its incredible steeps and consistent snowpack.
Coming off wins in Hakuba, it’s apparent that Italians Markus Eder and Arianna Tricomi are the skiers to beat. SkiBoss Tanner Hall and Norway’s Hedvig Wessel both had very strong showings in Japan, including the first stomped women’s backflip in competition, and will be pushing their limits to catch up with the leaders.
FWT19 Hakuba Recap: Women’s Results; Men’s Results
On the men’s side, at least one new Wild Card will enter the fray. Canadian big mountain skier Logan Pehota, who won at this venue during last year’s FWT event, is sure to put down another great line. Based on the massive air at the end of his run in 2018 and his familiarity with the venue, he won’t be as constrained by the compulsory visual inspection protocol.
Another important skier to watch at the FWT19 Kicking Horse venue is Canadian Tom Pieffer. He was third in Hakuba, behind Eder and Hall, but won the FWQ 4* event at Kicking Horse in 2018. With the momentum he has after standing the podium in Japan and familiarity with the Kicking Horse venue, he might be the underdog in Canada.
