Another Ski Resort Lifts Snowboard Restriction

Blowing Rock, NC Sept. 27–Ride on! Another ski area that once closed its doors to snowboarders, will open them this winter. Appalachian Ski Mountain in North Carolina will accept snowboarders this season for the first time.
“We’ve seen the interest in snowboarding grow over the last few seasons,” stated J. Brad Moretz of Appalachian Ski Mountain. “With people exploring other winter sport options like snowboarding, we thought it would make our area more mainstream and universal.”
To accommodate the snowboard crowd, the area beefed up its’ rental fleet by adding 100 new Rossignol snowboards with new step-in bindings.
There are only a handful of ski resorts in the U.S. that still ban snowboarders. Alta, Aspen Mountain, Deer Valley, Mad River Glen, and Taos Ski Valley all prohibit snowboarding on their slopes. Of these areas, Aspen Mountain is the only one where snowboarders are allowed on off-peak times. Aspen’s other mountains, Highlands, Snowmass, and Buttermilk, allow snowboarding.
Appalachian Ski Mountain is located 3 miles from Blowing Rock, between Blowing Rock and Boone, North Carolina, two miles off US 221. It has five lifts that service nine trails. They expect to open on November 19.
