Big storms over the last two weeks plus favorable snowmaking weather equals the first opening day of the season.

So it begins! Arapahoe Basin has announced they will begin regular winter operations on Friday, October 13th to officially kick off the 2017-2018 ski season in North America. Natural snow has been accumulating at the ski area since September 24th, but a few big storms over the past few weeks combined with ideal snowmaking temps earned a green light from the mountain operations team.

“Mother Nature has been kind to the Basin,” said Alan Henceroth, Arapahoe Basin Chief Operating Officer. “It’s exciting to kick off the ski season earlier than usual, and welcome winter back to Colorado.”

The ski area plans to have the Black Mountain Express spinning at 9:00 AM on Friday, and the High Noon trail will be open to skiers and snowboarders. Pending any late announcements from nearby rival Loveland Ski Area (or a darkhorse outside of Colorado, like what happened in 2010), A-Basin will win the title of being the first resort in North America to open for the 2017-2018 season.

More info is available on Arapahoe Basin’s website.
