Keystone, Colo. » The Keystone Lake Ice Rink is a picturesque five-acre lake-turned-rink in the center of Lakeside Village. You can see the lit-up night-skiing runs while skating, which offers up a nice vibe. It also has a fun claim to fame as the largest Zamboni-maintained outdoor skating rink in North America. Bonus: We love the big lighted Christmas tree right in the middle—the perfect backdrop for family snaps any time of year.
Mont Tremblant, Que. » Whether you’re interested in a casual evening skate or a rowdy hockey game (you are in Canada), you’ll find some ice you like here. Mont Tremblant has three rinks within walking distance of all village lodging, and resort guests can borrow skates for free. Check out the rink next to the St. Bernard Chapel, complete with a fire pit and music, or the slightly larger Lac Moore.
Sun Valley, Idaho » The full-size Sun Valley Outdoor Ice Rink is open year-round and draws skaters both recreational and professional. The rink serves as a home for the famous Sun Valley ice shows, the Sun Valley Figure Skating School, and the Sun Valley Suns hockey team. Take a lesson, watch world-class athletes, or just skate around and enjoy the scene in front of the iconic Sun Valley Lodge.
Beaver Creek, Colo. » The Beaver Creek Ice Rink has a central location in Beaver Creek Village and is charmingly decorated during the holidays. It features weekly events and is surrounded by several fire pits—plus it’s steps to shops and restaurants. For instance, send the kids for a whirl while you watch from the lounge at Toscanini.
Lake Louise, Alb. » The skating here is on mile-long Lake Louise, surrounded by the Rockies, with stunning views of Victoria Glacier. Snow is cleared off a small area of the lake, with a separate “rink” set apart for those who want to play hockey. In the winter an ice castle graces the entrance. How’s that for grand?
Stowe, Vt. » New as of last winter, the Spruce Peak Village Center is geared toward families. The additions include a children’s adventure center, indoor climbing wall, shops and restaurants…and a 9,000-square-foot ice rink right in the center with easy access to and from the slopes. Skating is free; rentals are available.
