KILLINGTON, Vt. Aug. 9, 2004 — Zayra Calderon, president and CEO of The FUTURES Golf Tour, the official development tour for the LPGA, has announced her intention to promote a special FUTURES Golf Tour event Sept. 1 – 2, 2004 at the Killington Golf Course at Killington Resort. The event will bring eight FUTURES stars to Killington to compete in a modified skins game, with $3600 in prize money, a Pro-Am competition and other festivities for the players, sponsors and friends.

Those players competing in the Killington event will travel to Vermont following the last regularly scheduled tournament of the FUTURES Tour to be held Aug. 27-29 at Regent’s Glen Country Club in York, PA. The skins game provides an excellent opportunity for golf enthusiasts to watch some of the best women in the sport compete in a fun, yet competitive event.

The players will arrive in Killington for a practice round on Aug. 31. On Sept. 1 at 1 p.m., the players will join those who have helped to sponsor the event in a Pro-Am competition, followed by a dinner reception. The skins game will occur at 10 a.m. on Sept. 2, followed by cocktail party and awards ceremony for the players and sponsors.

This is the first time in Vermont that The FUTURES Tour has consented to an exclusive special event such as this, and it is hoped that it may become an annual tradition in the Killington region.

The idea for such an event began two years ago, when Killington’s Director of Golf Dave Pfannenstein, and Mountain Times Publisher Royal Barnard asked the FUTURES Tour how they might be able to partake in an “after-tour” event that showcased the players in a light-hearted yet spirited environment. This event is the end-result of that initial conversation.
