Mammoth Mountain, CA, Jan. 12, 2001–A strong storm system moved across California Wednesday and Thursday dropping snow at levels below 3,000 feet and bringing up to four feet of snow to ski areas in the state.
Over three feet of snow piled up at Kirkwood, Mountain High, Sierra at Tahoe, and Sugar Bowl, while Mammoth Mountain reported up to four feet of new snow Friday morning. Alpine Meadows, Badger Pass, Boreal, and Bear Valley, came just shy of three feet, but still have plenty of snow to offer weekend skiers. The Southern California San Bernardino Mountains reportedly experienced 2 inches of snow an hour on Thursday.
The storm also left enough snow for June Mountain, CA to open on Jan. 13 for the season. “Mother Nature came through for us in a big way. June will be open with fantastic conditions,” said Carl Williams, General Manager. June Mountain is 20 miles north of Mammoth lakes.
Mammoth Mountain is taking advantage of the new snow and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by offering up to 25 percent off nightly rates at its lodging properties. Call 800-MAMMOTH and ask for the “3-feet offer.”
