Killington, VT, June 2–The Superstar Quad Chairlift finally came to a halt at 4:00 PM last May 29, and Killington Ski Resort reluctantly closed for the 1999-2000 winter season.
“We didn’t want to do it, but at this point we have no choice,” said Killington President Allen Wilson as the last patch of snow on Superstar . “We had a great Memorial Day Weekend, and the season ended on an up note.”
In a longstanding tradition, Killington threw its annual Memorial Day Triathlon¿ski Superstar run, mountain bike 6.2 miles, and a 5K run. Another tradition, Killington was the first ski area in the East to open, kicking off the season last Oct. 25. The area hosted skiers for a total of 205 days, marking the longest season in the east.
Next year, the season could get even longer, since the ski area is planning to increase snowmaking capacity by 30 percent.
