Wenatchee, WA, April 27–Coming off of Mission Ridgeski area’s best season ever, its owners announced today they are sellingthe 900-acre resort to concentrate on properties with more real estatedevelopment potential.
Harbor Properties, which has operated Mission Ridge(located almost halfway between Seattle and Spokane) for the last threeseasons, said the ski area does not fit in with its current plans forgreater resort development.
The area, which has four double chairs, two surface tows and 2,200 feet ofvertical drop, posted 120,000 skier visits for the 1999-2000 season throughits closing day earlier this month.
Mission Ridge attracts day users fromboth the Seattle and Spokane areas-about three hours away-and gets morethan 150 inches of natural snow a season. The resort rests on land owned bythe U.S. Forest Service, the state Department of Natural Resources andstate Department of Fish and Wildlife.
According to Murph Yule of JMY Consulting Services in Boston, which ishandling the sale, permits and approvals are already in place for adding ahigh-speed detachable lift and increasing water draw for additionalsnowmaking.
The resort also has an active summer recreation program andHarbor Properties will continue to operate the resort until new owners canput a management team in place.
