Sierra-At-Tahoe Celebrates National Safety Awareness Week

South Lake Tahoe, CA (Press Release) – Sierra-at-Tahoe will again participate in the National Ski Area Association’s (NSAA) National Safety Week from Jan. 17-24, 2004. National Safety Awareness Week is designed to enable resorts to highlight their safety efforts during the winter season.
Sierra-at-Tahoe will host events throughout the week promoting safety, aimed at both internal and external guests. Each day will highlight a new safety theme focused around one of the seven responsibility codes and the new Smart Style campaign that focuses specifically on terrain park safety.
Throughout the week, Captain Safety will cruise the slopes awarding prizes to guests who can recite the NSAA Responsibility Code. Sierra-at-Tahoe will also participate in the national poster contest which encourages kids to create a poster related to any one of the seven points in “Your Responsibility Code.
Other activities include a safety scavenger hunt where guests and employees are required to seek out the first aid room, the security office, and spot specific security codes posted on the mountain for a $100 gift certificate to Sierra Mountain Sports. Guests can participate in several half-hour clinics on Smart Style in the terrain parks or demo helmets from the rental shops for free.
Half price mini tune-ups will be available in the repair shop as well as food and beverage specials featuring safety themes, including safety scoops of ice cream in the Bake Shop. Sierra Mountain Sports will offer a 10 percent discount on helmet purchases throughout the week. The Sierra staff will be on hand distributing snowboard leashes to riders and Captain Safety will be distributing complimentary sunscreen, lip balm, beanies and hats.
Sierra-at-Tahoe created trucker hats and T-shirts displaying Smart Style codes to award to guests and employees will wear them throughout the week. Smart Style is the NSAA’s terrain park safety initiative that includes “Look before you leap, “Easy style it and “Respect gets respect. These three initiatives will be handed out on oranges throughout the week to represent the orange oval-the NSAA symbol for freestyle terrain.
The resort’s snow reporters will record safety tips on the daily snowreport, safety messages will be found at each lift line, “safety greeters will hand out pocket size responsibility code cards to guests while the parking lot staff distributes information on sun safety. Guests can watch safety videos in the lodge.
