Annual VASS Benefit Race at Pico Mountain

Killington, VT Feb. 20, 2004 – The annual Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports (VASS) Pepsi Ski Challenge benefit race on March 6 features teams of three competing in a modified giant slalom format on the Pike trail. Race entry includes admission to the race reception and awards banquet in the evening. Last season’s race raised nearly $20,000 for the organization. Pico Mountain is the central Vermont home of VASS, a non-profit organization in its 15th year, which offers low cost, year round sports and recreation programs for people with handicaps or disabilities. The VASS mission is to instill self-confidence and promote independence for individuals living with physical and mental challenges.

“VASS is committed to furthering the equality and independence of individuals with disabilities by providing access to sports and recreational activities,” said Erin Fernandez, executive director of VASS. “The staff and volunteers are professional, knowledgeable and ready to assist or instruct students of all ages.”

The line up of recreational opportunities, which VASS adapts to the needs of the disabled and handicapped, includes skiing and snowboarding in the winter, plus sailing, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, cycling, and rock climbing throughout the summer.
