Wengen, Switzerland, Jan. 15–Austria once again proved its dominancein speed races as six of the top-10 skiers, including two of the topthree, were Austrian Saturday in the renowned Lauberhorn downhill .
Josef Strobl was first with a time of 2:29.17 followed by teammateHermann Maier (2:29.33) and Canadian Ed Podivinsky (2:30.56). Maierretained the World Cup DH and overall points lead while Strobl movedinto third in DH and fourth overall.
Daron Rahlves (Truckee, CA) was the top American finisher in 22nd,posting a time of 2:33.13. Jakub Fiala (Breckenridge, CO) finished 35thin 2:34.78 and Chris Puckett (Boulder, CO) placed 39th, posting a timeof 2:37.78.
Action in Wengen concludes Sunday with a slalom before moving on toKitzbuehel, Austria, for super G, downhill and slalom/combined events.
