“This is shaping up to be one of those seasons that you’ll hear about and read about for years to come, said Andy Wirth, vice president of sales & marketing for the resort. “With nearly 100% of the mountain terrain already open for skiing/riding, Steamboat is enjoying the best and most snow in Colorado.

Steamboat unveiled the www.bigsno.com site as a way to share the excitement of Steamboat’s legendary Champagne Powder snow through images, video and stats with skiers and riders who love big, deep snow and Ski Town, U.S.A.® This site chronicles the epic early season snow during four early season storms on November 28th & 30th and December 2nd and 8th. Additional content will be added as new storms roll through Steamboat.
“With the resort’s snowiest November already in the record book and 4.25 feet just twelve days into December, Steamboat is definitely showing why it’s the home of Champagne Powder snow, said Doug Allen, vice president-operations of the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation.
So far this season, Steamboat has seen 83 in November (a new monthly record) and 51 in December for a combined total of 134 (11.16 feet). Add in another 15 in October and the resort has seen 12.41 feet (149) for this season. During an eleven day stretch (Nov. 27-Dec. 7), 92 (7.67 feet) fell at mid-mountain and 104 (8.67 feet) at the summit. Since the resort opened on November 23rd, snow has fallen eleven out of twenty days.
The resort is currently reporting a 43-inch base at mid-mountain and 55-inch base at the summit. Due to all the new snow, the ski area continues to open additional terrain, bringing the total to 159/164 trails, 12 lifts and 2,872/2,965 acres (97% of the mountain) open for skiing/riding on powder/packed powder conditions. Year-in, year-out, Steamboat always receives big, consistent early season snow and this season is shaping up to be no different. It’s why the term Champagne Powder was coined in Steamboat back in the 1950s.
The early season snow even attracted the attention of legendary filmmaker, Warren Miller Entertainment. Warren Miller Entertainment sent their top cinematographer and three athletes to Steamboat-Ski Town, U.S.A.® to get an early jump on the Steamboat segment for next year’s annual feature film of the legendary Warren Miller film series.
