Maureen “Mo” Drummey joined the SKI staff in the spring of 2000 as assistant editor, a title that fails to describe all that she does. Mo oversees our letters to the editor, our Midwest regional section and our Mountain Property department, and she also writes the Property of the Month and Design File. For this issue, she authored the main story on a unique, environmentally sensitive paper house that was built near Winter Park, Colo. In her not-so-spare time, Mo manages SKI’s most important activity: Paying our contributors on time. She grew up in Connecticut and Massachusetts, and learned to ski at age 4 in Maine. After graduating from St. Lawrence University in upstate New York, she was an editor with New York Runner. Mo is a marathoner and telemark skier who has taken on additional responsibilities as guardian of a black lab pup named Sadie. When recently asked about her aspirations at SKI, the answer came quickly, maybe too quickly: “Corner office.” Not so fast, Mo.

Tanya Johnsen and Maggie Oberwise served flawlessly as co-photo editors for the October and November issues of SKI. We knew we had a live one in Maggie, whose résumé read: “My goal is to be a sponge. Not just any sponge: One that absorbs quickly.” Maggie, a native of Chicago, is a University of Colorado graduate who became an avid skier when she moved West. For this issue, she photographed the aforementioned paper house featured in Mountain Property. Tanya hails from the skiing hotbed of North Dakota. After graduating from the University of North Dakota and earning a degree in commercial photography from the prestigious Brooks Institute, she moved to Summit County in 1996, took up snowboarding and never looked back. Tanya shot the photography for Ski Towns and In Gear this month. Tanya and Maggie also meticulously tracked down and helped select every photo in this issue.
