Doug Sabanosh, who joined SKI three years ago and serves as editor for skimag.com, still delights in recounting his “match” with PGA Tour star Tom Lehman. Doug, a 9-handicapper, was entered in a golf tournament last summer at the spectacular Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks in Silverthorne, Colo. The highlight was to play a hole with Lehman, a co-designer of the course and a former PGA Tour Player of the Year. As Doug tells it, he laced a three-iron on the 215-yard downhill par three that ended up well within Lehman’s tee shot. In a scramble format, Lehman ran his putt four feet by the hole, while our own Doug left his hanging on the lip. Doug’s been talking about how he “beat” Lehman ever since, and about how the down-to-earth Minnesota pro is such a great guy¿and skier. For this issue, Doug profiles Tom for Last Run on page 108. Doug, who has managed to ski 77 months in a row, also writes about summer pass skiing opportunities in Colorado on page 91.
Harry Campbell has been contributing to SKI since 1995, and his quirky illustrations have accompanied both features and departments. For five consecutive years, his fun and informative maps have been a big part of the popular Scenic Drives section of our Mountain Summer issues, not only helping readers find their way but also giving them a feel for what they’ll encounter. “I enjoy doing the maps,” reports Harry. “It’s almost like you’re traveling as you do it. And you do get the burning desire to go do it yourself.” It helps that Harry has driven many of the routes himself. (Turn to page 64 to start planning your summer trip now.) A graduate of the Maryland Institute of Art, Harry lives in Baltimore with his wife and two boys. Though not an avid skier, he does take occasional forays to ski in Vermont.
