PARIS, Dec. 21 2003 (AP) — French skier Frederic Covili will miss the rest of the World Cup season after injuring his knee last weekend in a giant slalom in Alta Badia, Italy.

He ruptured ligaments in his left knee, the French Ski Federation said Tuesday. He will have surgery early next month, L’Equipe reported.

“It’s a big blow for sure,” Covili told the sports daily. “I’ll be out for at least six months, until June, maybe July.”

Covili is in third place in the slalom standings, behind Kalle Palander and Bode Miller.
