YONG PYONG, South Korea (USST Press Release)—Three-time Olympian Erik Schlopy (Park City, UT) was the lone American to finish Saturday in the first of two World Cup giant slaloms in Yong Pyong as he was eighth.

Italians Davide Simoncelli and Max Blardone went 1-2, Simoncelli winning in 2:13.63. Schlopy’s time was 2:15.29.

Daron Rahlves (Sugar Bowl, CA) failed to finish his second run and Jimmy Cochran (Keene, NH) failed to finish the first run, while Chip Knight (Stowe, VT) was disqualified in the opening run. Defending World Cup champion Bode Miller (Bretton Woods, NH) is not in the Orient and Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) did not start.

The men will compete Sunday in another GS before heading to Japan.
