Aspen, Colo.(X Games Press Release)-Karin Huttary tasted gold in Winter X Games Eight’s Skier X Women’s competition, then silver at Winter X Games Nine. Apparently, gold tastes better.
On a snowy Skier X course on Buttermilk Mountain at Aspen/Snowmass, Huttary (Innsbruck, Austria), the top finisher in Friday’s qualifying (59.025), rolled easily through her semi-final heat before dominating the field in the finals to earn her fourth consecutive Winter X Games medal.
“The driving motivation for me was to get on top again, and there’s nothing like being on top at the X Games, Huttary said.
Gro Kvinlog (Hemsedal, Norway) overcame a ninth qualifying position (61.740) and skied strong to take the silver, her first Winter X Games medal, but couldn’t build enough speed to catch Huttary after a slow start.
“I had a chance to pass Karin earlier, Kvinlog said, “but she maintained control throughout the race.
In a true photo finish, Ophelie David (Alpe D’Huez, France) edged Sanna Tidstrand (Malung, Sweden) to take the bronze, her first Winter X Games medal in four appearances. [NEXT]WINTER X GAMES 10
