Getting There Swissair flies daily from New York to Zurich, where you’ll board a train to Interlaken East, connect to a train to Lauterbrunnen and then cog railway to Wengen. To Mürren, add a funicular and a train ride. Allow 3 1/2 hours.

When To Go Snow cover is uncertain, so check first. Mürren is higher; Wengen has far more snowmaking.

Sleeping In A week in a four-star hotel like Wengen’s Silberhorn, with breakfast and dinner, costs about $825 per person. Others: the Regina, the Caprice, or Club Med’s Palace Hotel. Dining Out Most lodging includes breakfast and dinner. In Wengen, the Regina and Caprice hotels are top-rated. Best on-mountain lunch: Jagerstubli in Grund. In Mürren, the Stubli in the Hotel Eiger is excellent.

Après-Ski There are two phases: on terraces and in bars after skiing and in hotels after dinner. Best bets: the Eiger Hotel in Mürren and the Pickel Bar in Wengen’s Eiger Hotel.

Kicking Butt Head to White Hair, which is the color your tresses may assume if you look down or, worse, straight up at the Eiger North Wall.

Kicking Back Enjoy a beer on the Wengernalp Hotel terrace in Wengen.

Activities The area offers miles of sledding and winter walking trails, skating, hang-gliding and curling.

Don’t Miss A trip on the cog railway inside the Eiger to the Jungfraujoch is a must. Cost: $32 with a ski pass. Mürren’s Inferno Week is Jan. 17-22.
