Lake Placid, NY, Dec. 6, 2001–
Child Magazine
has rated Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, NY as one of its top ten ski resorts for families. Whiteface has a number of services and programs that make families happy, but its Kids Kampus is the most popular.
New this year the Whiteface Ski School features a special Parent/Child Private lesson designed to help parents teach their kids how to ski More than 8 percent of its 72 trails are part of the Kids Kampus.
The base area at the Kids Kampus has its own restaurant, rental/retail shop, daycare, day-lodge, ski school, ticketing, triple chair and handle-tow lift. More than 8 percent of Whiteface’s 72 trails are part of the Kids Kampus.
The childcare is fabulous. Parents can drop their kids off, go skiing, and then come back to check on their kids throughout the day. Sandy Caligore of Whiteface says, “ninety-five percent of the people using the Kids Kampus are Moms, Dads and kids.”
The new ski school lesson for parents and kids will certainly highlight Whiteface’s commitment to families. At $70 Whiteface offers a one-hour private lesson for children that have never skied before. The child can invite one parent who already has a lift ticket to come along for the lesson. The parent must know how to ski because the focus of the lesson is on the child and the parent simply observes the instructor’s techniques. At the end of the lesson the instructor will make recommendations to the parent about what steps to take in the future and when it might be okay for the kid to ride the chairlift (as most of the hour will be spent using the handle tow lift).
