Koz Takes Ninth in Sweden for First GS Top-10

Are, Sweden Jan. 31, 2002 (USSA)–World Cup leader Michaela Dorfmeister of Austria led both runs Thursday en route to winning the last pre-Olympic giant slalom by more than a second while Kristina Koznick (Burnsville, MN) had the second-fastest final run and moved up 10 spots to finish ninth.

The race will be shown Monday at 8 EST on Outdoor Life Network.

Dorfmeister’s winning time was 2:24.71 with Swede Anja Paerson second in 2:25.89. Sonja Nef of Switzerland, who was looking to clinch the World Cup GS title, took third place in 2:26.36. and will head into the final giant slalom in March with a 20-point margin over Dorfmeister. Overall, the Austrian has 926 points and is 167 points ahead of Nef.

Koznick was 19th in the first run and finished with a total time of 2:27.13 for the best giant slalom result of her career.

Italy’s Elisabetta Biavaschi of Italy was knocked out of the upcoming Olympics when she broke her right leg in a bad crash during the first run,

The final pre-Olympic downhill is scheduled for Saturday with a slalom (and combined calculation) Sunday.
