(SKIING Magazine by Tim Sweeney) — For the right price, you can get just about anything — even a date. So, it should come as no surprise that if you want to make it to the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, you still can. You don’t even need a Visa card. The startling part is that you can get there for your price, not your broker’s. Ideally, you should have made your reservations a year ago. But a handful of tour operators are still offering trips to the Games.
Boston-based Target Sport Adventures, for one, offers deals so tasty we’d be telling you about them even if we weren’t sponsoring them, which — by the way — we are. For as low as $1,395 per person, four people can stay in a one-bedroom condo in the Park City area for four nights (pullout couch included), get tickets to two events, a rental car, and one-day lift tickets to Park City, Deer Valley, and The Canyons. If you want, you can stack 10 people in a three-bedroom condo with a loft for $1,195 per person for four nights. (Of course, the affordable packages are selling out fast.) Different packages have tickets to the slalom, GS, moguls, and aerials — events that are otherwise sold out.
Target Sport is offering condos and houses in Park City, Deer Valley, and The Canyons, meaning it may be a tricky jaunt to catch that curling match between Belarus and Kerplekistan in Ogden, but you’ll be in prime position to catch the Alpine events and to go skiing.
Target Sport isn’t the only place you can book your trip. A Lodging Connection has Olympic packages starting at $3,000 (subject to availability) with two tickets to two events, along with a rental car and lodging in the Park City or Salt Lake City areas. Extreme Chill is offering four-night packages with tickets to six events for $5,399 per person based on double occupancy. All its hotels are four-star or better, and your seats will be close to the action. If you want tickets to a high-profile event, the expensive packages are hard to avoid.
You can always purchase tickets to additional events when you get there, but with opening- and closing-ceremony tickets going for $885 and scalping a legal practice in Utah, your Olympic trip would no longer qualify as a deal.
