Breckenridge, CO, Nov. 24–Teenager Julia Mancuso (Tahoe City, CA) continued her strong early season form Tuesday, starting 45th and finishing second in a $100,000 Super Series giant slalom as four Americans broke into the top-10 finishers for the second day in a row at BreckenridgeSki Area.
Germany’s Simone Behringer hung-up the fastest second run on Peak 9’sSundown race trail and won with a total time of 2:16.66. Mancuso, who made her World Cup debut last weekend at Copper Mountain, was timed in 2:16.78 with Italy’s Nicole Gius third (2:16.91).
Courtney Strait (Clifton Park, NY), who also made her World Cup debut at Copper while rebounding from shin problems, finished fifth in 2:17.42. Other Americans in the top 10 were Sarah Schleper (Vail, CO), who was seventh, and eighth-place finisher Kristina Koznick (Burnsville, MN).
In a related development, Super Series Commissioner Sarah Bergstrom said three women’s races scheduled for Nov. 30-Dec. 4 at Mammoth Mountain, Calif. – two downhills and a super G – had been canceled but men’s DH races scheduled for Dec. 9-10 at Mammoth remain on schedule.
