Mt. Bachelor To Open Nov. 22

Bend, Ore. – November 12, 2002 -Mt. Bachelor, the premier snow resort in the Northwest, announced a 2002-2003 season opening of Friday, November 22 with lifts operating from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM weekdays, and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM weekends and holidays.

Chairlifts running will be the Pine Marten Express, Skyliner Express, Sunrise Express and Sunshine Accelerator until the rest of the mountain begins operations December 14. The Summit Express and the Outback or Northwest Express chairs will run when snow and weather conditions allow. The Cross Country Center will open with 25 kilometers of groomed, tracked trails. Additional trails will be groomed as snow conditions allow. Starting the 22nd the West Village and Sunrise Lodges will be open daily. Bachelor Super Shuttles will run weekends and Thanksgiving week until December 23, and daily thereafter. The Snowblast Tubing Park will be open Saturday and Sunday, November 16 and 17 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and daily beginning November 23.

Currently Mt. Bachelor has a base of 20 inches with more snow expected, but warmer weather in the forecast prevents the mountain opening sooner. “Our snow depth is increasing but we are anticipating some rain along with more snow over the next week and a half,” said mountain spokesman Chris Johnston. “Weather permitting we’ll keep running the snow guns to help create a great base for the season.”
