SALT LAKE CITY, UT, Dec. 15, 2003 – With more than a foot of fresh powder on top of a five-foot base in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains, conditions were perfect for the opening day of the Ski Utah Interconnect Adventure Tour, reported Lead Interconnect Guide Rodd Keller.
The guided tour, which opened for the season on Dec. 15, uses backcountry routes to ski between as many as five resorts in the same day. The Ski Utah Interconnect Tour will operate daily through late April, weather and conditions permitting, and is open to advanced skiers in good physical condition. Tours depart four days a week from Park City Mountain Resort and three days a week from Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort. They are led by professional backcountry guides through Solitude Mountain Resort, Brighton Ski Resort and Alta Ski Area. The cost, $150 per person, includes guide service, lift access, lunch, transportation back to point of origin and a special-edition finisher’s pin. “This is the perfect way for skiers who may not have the skills or knowledge to venture out of bounds on their own to have an incredible backcountry experience,” said Keller.
He added that the tour is unique in North America: “This is the only place outside of Europe where you can ski this many resorts in a single day. The Interconnect Tour really shows how close and accessible Utah’s resorts are. Plus, the backcountry terrain and scenery between the resorts is spectacular.”
The Interconnect Tour is designed to be done on alpine ski gear. Though the majority of the tour is downhill, it requires some hiking, traversing and the ability to ski diverse ski conditions. For more information, contact Ski Utah at 801-534-1907.
