Snowbird Tram Opens for Mountain Biking, Scooter Riding

Snowbird, Utah July 15, 2004 — Snowbird’s summer season is in full swing as the Tram is now open for mountain biking and off-road scooter riding, rounding out the year-round resort’s plethora of activities.
As the last of the snow is melted off Snowbird’s trails, it’s now possible to ride from 11,000-foot Hidden Peak back to the Snowbird Center or connect into the network of Snowbird and Little Cottonwood Canyon singletrack trails.
The dual-track Snowbird Alpine Slide opened for the 2004 summer season July 2 as did the Bungy Trampoline. Snowbird’s new Summer Music Series is in full swing with free and paid concerts throughout the summer. The Founders Title Folk and Bluegrass Festival kicks off Friday, July 16, with a band competition and continues throughout the weekend. The new Beat the Heat wall climbing and mountain running competition is Sunday, July 18.
“Snowbird’s summer activities have expanded dramatically in the last year,” said Snowbird President Bob Bonar. “From paragliding to the new ZipRider that will open next month to free concerts on the Plaza Deck, there’s an amazing amount to do at Snowbird this summer.”
Snowbird and Two Can Fly Paragliding began offering tandem paragliding last month from the top of the Snowbird Tram. The new dual-cable ZipRider, taking riders from a 50-foot tower to the Snowbird Center on a suspended cable, will open in mid-August. Snowbird’s horse and ATV tours, operated by Intermountain Guide Service, are under way in Mineral Basin.
The Snowbird Center Plaza Deck will be home to a number of free weekend concerts, including performances by Ryan Shupe & The Rubber Band, Blues on First, Stout and Brenn Hill. Sunday Brunch Music in the Atrium is provided by a variety of talented acoustic guitar players including Chris Bender, Anke Summerhill, Rex Flinner and Stacey Board. More free music will be found in the Aerie Lounge Saturday and Wednesday evenings, with performances by the Larry Jackstien Trio, the G. Brown Quintet, Rich Wyman, Michael Lucarelli and more.
