Suunto, Skiing launch Vertical Team club

magazine, in partnership with Suunto Sports, has launched an interactive skiing club called Skiing Magazine Vertical Team, it was announced today by Perkins Miller, editor-in-chief. Skiers and snowboarders will be able to record and post the amount of vertical feet skied or snowboarded at any resort around the country or the world.
“Passionate skiers are competitive athletes. They love to ski fast-and they’re always trying to ski faster than their friends,” said Miller. “Now they can truly measure themselves against friends and colleagues anywhere.”
Skiers and snowboarders will be able to create personal logs of their days on snow, organized individually or by team, as well as by country, state and resort by logging on to www.skiingmag.com/verticalteam or www.suuntosports.com. With a Suunto wristop computer such as the Suunto S6, graphs of the day’s total vertical skied or ridden can be uploaded to the site. The information can also be logged and posted manually. Watches can be purchased at any authorized Suunto dealer. A list of demo opportunities is available on the Vertical Team website calendar.

SKIING Magazine Vertical Team will be open to professional and amateur snow riders, beginning today. Team members will be able to compare their best runs to those of Whistler Freeride Team members Lee Anne Patterson and Shaun “Smiley” Nesbitt, or to the long days of big mountain snowboarder John Griber. In addition to logging vertical stats, team members will be able to share stories and photos on the Vertical Team site and to compete for the best trip report of the season. For example, users will be able to follow SKIING’s assistant editor Lindsay Yaw as she competes in her first-ever 24 Hours of Aspen ski race on December 15-16.
