Hunter, NY Jan. 5 (AP)–Thomas Vonn of Newburgh, N.Y., dominated both runs Wednesday as he breezed to victory in a Super Series giant slalom at Hunter Mountain.
Vonn had a two-run time of 2 minutes, 9.69 seconds on a course that went from soupy after two days of slalom racing in the rain to solid ice for the GS. Casey Puckett of Crested Butte, Colo., was second in 2:10.51.
“We went through a 50-degree temperature drop (from Tuesday’s slalom), from rain for two days to absolute boilerplate ice, which was a great opportunity before we go back to Europe,” U.S. coach Thomas Erhard said. “It was a technically challenging hill, but Hunter Mountain has done a sensational job of staging these races.”
The top Americans return to the World Cup circuit in Europe after another giant slalom Thursday.
