Wausau, WI, May 1–The Rib Mountain ski area, owned by the State ofWisconsin, will be operated next winter by Charles Skinner, Jr. ofLutsen Mountains, MN.
Aggressive snowmaking and a family-friendly atmosphere has made Lutsen one of the more successful ski areas in the Midwest.
So far the Wisconsin ski area has announced a new name and will now be known as Granite Peak Ski Area, at Rib Mountain State Park. The new name has received mixed reviews by locals. In a poll conducted by the Wausau Daily Herald, 32% or respondents said they liked the new name, 44% didn’t like it, 20% didn’t care, and one voter noted that the name made no sense because the hill was not granite but quartzite.
More changes will likely be announced this spring.
