It’s not cliché to call Chamonix “extreme” because that’s exactly what it is. The French village is the epicenter of ski mountaineering, and a place where ropes can be used as often as skis to get down the mountains. While it might be a bit much for some skiers, it’s easy to get a kick out of watching professionals do their thing.
For Face of Winter, presented by Volkswagen, Warren Miller Entertainment explored the famed steeps of Chamonix with Black Crows Skis’ athletes Michael “Bird” Shaffer, Bruno Compagnet, and Camille Jaccoux. In addition to the steep terrain, the town is also known for its pumping nightlife scene and friendly hospitality.
