Armada

Armada

Armada was the first brand created for freeskiers and is credited in revolutionizing the perception of skiing. No longer were freeskiers reckless kids “ruining” the mountain. They were now prominent athletes competing on a global scale, inspiring the next generation of skiers to have more fun with the sport of skiing.

History of Armada Skis

In the early 2000s, professional skiers JP Auclair, Tanner Hall, JF Cusson, Julien Regnier, and Boyd Easley, along with snow sports photographer Chris O’Connell, founded Armada skis on the premise of: “Armada. What skiing will become.”

Growing tired of the big ski companies catering to alpine racers, these skiers created Armada, skiing’s first rider-owned, rider-operated ski manufacturer. Armada abandoned the traditional ski company model by adopting a team-based model similar to what was happening in the snowboarding industry. They could work directly with freeski athletes to develop skis specifically for freeskiing. This led to the creation of freeskiing movement that was more closely related to the freedoms of snowboarding, skateboarding, and surfing than traditional skiing.

Armada Skis Today

After getting its start in a garage in Truckee, Calif., Armada is now headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. Armada skis are now manufactured in Altenmarkt, Austria after being purchased by Amer Sports in 2017.
The Armada team is packed with professional freeskiers including Todd Ligare, Maude Raymond, Torin Yater-Wallace, and Henrik Harlaut.
Armada has designed and produced top-of-the-line skis with versatility in mind. The company specializes in park and women’s skis, dedicated to crafting the best skis for chicks who rip. Their most innovative ski designs include the ARG, with a reverse-camber design that makes the ski ideal for surfing deep snow. The Armada JJ ski, originally designed by JP Auclair and Julien Regnier, is notable for its rocker-camber-rocker design.
