The 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, marks the second time both slopestyle and halfpipe skiing have been recognized as official Olympic sports. Twenty years ago, however, the FIS and IOC wanted nothing to do with these fledgling “new school” types of skiing. A group of young Canadian skiers, calling themselves the New Canadian Air Force (NCAF), started going into “snowboard parks,” catching air and grabbing their skis, and recording it all on film. They approached the French company Salomon to create a ski that had twin tips, forever changing skiing for a new generation and beyond.
Salomon TV’s latest episode, “Becoming History,” documents the beginnings of the NCAF and the Salomon Teneighty, plus what became of the pioneers who changed the sport for countless people. Starring Mike Douglas, JP Auclair, JF Cusson, Vincent Dorion, Shane Szocs, Philou Poirier, and more.
